WASA 2024: Nigerian Army Reassures Plateau Residents of Adequate Security

The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring peace and security in Plateau State during the festive season.

Speaking at the 2024 West African Social Activities (WASA) held at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, assured residents of the army’s readiness to safeguard lives and property.

He highlighted the introduction of Operation Golden Peace, a proactive security initiative designed to deter criminal activity, foster community trust, and ensure public safety during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

“Operation Golden Peace is a proactive security measure aimed at maintaining peace, preventing criminal activity, and ensuring the safety of our communities during the festive period,” Major General Abubakar stated.

He emphasized that the initiative reflects the army’s dedication to fostering stability across Plateau State and neighboring regions.

The GOC praised the collaboration between security agencies and the strong support of local communities, describing it as pivotal to the region’s improved security.

The peace and security we enjoy today are the direct results of our collective efforts. We must continue to strengthen these partnerships to protect the gains we’ve made,” he added.

Reflecting on the essence of WASA, Major General Abubakar noted, “This gathering is a testament to the spirit of togetherness and mutual support that defines us as a military family. It reflects the vibrant cultural diversity that binds us as one nation.”

The event was graced by the Plateau State Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Lands, Survey, and Town Planning, Barr. Peter Nyam Gai, who commended the Nigerian Army for its unwavering efforts in maintaining peace in the state.

“Plateau State is reclaiming its position as the ‘Home of Peace and Tourism.’ This progress is a result of the sacrifices of our security agencies. As a government, we will continue to provide unwavering support to sustain these achievements,” he stated.
