NASCO Equips Over 200 Youths with AI and Digital Skills on World Youth Skills Day

Over 200 young Nigerians have been equipped with valuable digital skills, as NASCO Group of Companies hosted a summit in Jos to mark World Youth Skills Day 2025.

The event, centered around the theme “Youth Empowerment Through AI and Digital Skills,” brought together students, graduates, job seekers, and aspiring entrepreneurs to discuss the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital tools in shaping the future workforce.

The summit, held on July 15th, highlighted the growing importance of digital literacy for youth employment, entrepreneurship, and global competitiveness.

In a world where AI and automation are transforming industries, NASCO’s initiative aimed to ensure that young people are not just passive consumers of technology, but active creators and innovators.

In his address, Alhaji Shehu S. Nyalun, General Manager of NASCO Group, welcomed participants by stressing the need for Nigeria to invest in the digital skills of its youth to remain competitive on the global stage.

He emphasized that AI and digitalization are reshaping industries, and Nigeria cannot afford to fall behind.

“The future of work is here. Our youth must be equipped with the skills needed to lead in this new digital era,” Nyalun said.

Dr. Cletus Bako Shurkuk, Plateau State’s Commissioner for Science and Technology, delivered a keynote address, sharing alarming statistics on the future of work.

He cited research from the World Economic Forum and McKinsey Global Institute, warning that millions of jobs could be displaced by automation unless young people acquire the skills to adapt.

“This is not a distant threat; it is already happening,” Dr. Shurkuk stated. “To survive and thrive, our youth must create with technology, not just use it.”

In a panel discussion, experts called for more investment in youth-focused policies and skill-building initiatives.

Mr. Robert John, one of the panelists, urged the government to prioritize long-term, sustainable youth empowerment programs.

“Young people are the foundation of our future. If we want meaningful development, we must empower our youth with the tools they need to succeed,” he said.

The summit also featured insights from Mrs. Abigail Bugama, who discussed how AI can enhance essential soft skills such as communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

She highlighted the role of AI in personalizing education to help youth develop skills that are vital in today’s competitive global economy.

“AI isn’t just about technology, It’s about helping young people build the skills that drive innovation and leadership.”Bugama explained

For participants like Stephen Nwoye, the event was a turning point. Nwoye, who discovered a passion for digital marketing, expressed his newfound confidence in pursuing a freelance career.

“This program has been life-changing,” Nwoye said. “I’ve found a new path in digital marketing and feel confident about starting my own business.”

By the end of the summit, NASCO Group had reaffirmed its commitment to empowering Nigeria’s youth, ensuring they are not only prepared for the future of work but are equipped to lead.
