Suspected gunmen, believed to be bandits, have launched a deadly attack on the Kulben community in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, leaving at least 10 people dead.

Moses Fwan, a local resident, confirmed the incident in Jos, the state capital, on Monday.

Fwan revealed that the terror unfolded on Sunday night, as houses owned by local villagers were systematically destroyed by the bandits, prior to their departure from the community.

“An armed Fulani militia group targeted our community in the Kulben village, situated within the Kombun District of the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State,” Fwan described.

According to Fwan, the armed intruders descended on the village around 10:00 pm on Sunday night (10/09/2023), culminating in the deaths of 10 villagers. Scores of others were left injured, while some lost their homes to the destructive activities of the attackers.

“Currently, the community is in mourning and preparations are underway for a mass burial of the deceased,” Fwan added.

Dr. Elisha, the Chairman of the Mwaghavul Development Association in the Kombun District, also confirmed the attack declaring, “From the details available, 10 individuals lost their lives in the invasion. I am on my way to the village.”

However, Alfred Alabo, the Spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, stated that his office had not received any report of the attack. Equally, Captain Oya James, the media officer for the Military Special Task Force assigned with maintaining peace in the state, said he is unaware of the incident, though he assured that an investigation would be launched to prevent further incidents.
