In a notable effort to enhance educational infrastructure in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, PhD, OON, representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituency, has handed over a newly built and fully equipped three-classroom block to Government Model Secondary School, Dengi—his alma mater.
The construction, spearheaded by the Gagdi Support Foundation, was dedicated in honor of the lawmaker’s late father, Mallam Adamu (Tanko) Yusuf Gagdi. The new facility was unveiled by the Emir of Kanam, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammad Mu’azu Muhammadu II, during the 2024 National Convention of the Dengi Old Students Association (DOSA), held on October 5th.
In his speech, Gagdi underscored the essential role of education in community advancement, calling it a cornerstone of his legislative agenda.
“My focus on education is unshakable. The steps I’ve taken, such as working toward the establishment of a Federal University in my constituency, reflect my long-term vision for educational progress. I am committed to ensuring that PKK reaps these benefits,” he affirmed.
He further elaborated on his efforts to bring a Federal University to PKK, stating,
“Even if the university isn’t directly within my constituency, my goal is to ensure its creation, allowing my people to benefit from it.”
In addition to the newly unveiled classrooms, Gagdi reaffirmed his commitment to further educational development in PKK.
“We’re advocating for a naval military secondary school in Kanke, as well as working to relocate the Federal College of Education to Kanam. These institutions will strengthen our youth’s educational foundation, enabling them to compete nationally,” he added.
He also disclosed plans to establish an Information Communication Technology (ICT) center in Dengi, which would serve as a JAMB registration and examination hub, providing access to modern learning tools within the community.
Speaking at the unveiling, the Emir of Kanam, Alhaji Muhammad Mu’azu Muhammadu II, praised Gagdi’s contributions, highlighting their impact on both education and community progress.
“Today marks an important milestone for Kanemians. Gagdi’s actions show the strength of our heritage and our collective ambition. His work is elevating our community and inspiring future generations,” the Emir said.
Additionally, the 1987 set of Government Model Secondary School, Dengi, participated in the event by planting trees as a symbol of their commitment to the institution’s future.
In a related development, Gagdi returned to Gum-Gagdi Ward, his hometown, where he was warmly welcomed as part of the ongoing preparations for the upcoming local government elections on October 9.
During his address, he expressed confidence in the future of his constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“My people are my greatest asset. Their support gives me the strength to continue. The progress we’ve made in education, healthcare, road construction, and other sectors is a testament to what we’ve achieved together,” he remarked.
Encouraging constituents to support the APC, Gagdi pointed to his achievements, including road infrastructure projects, covering WAEC and NECO fees for students, and healthcare initiatives.
“We have delivered for this community, and I challenge anyone to show what the PDP has done for PKK. If they can, I will personally campaign for them. But until then, I stand firmly behind the APC and our record,” he concluded.
