GOSA officials addressing the press on upcoming National Convention plans.

As part of its upcoming National Convention, the Gindiri Old Students’ Association (GOSA) has set an ambitious goal of raising 1 billion naira to transform Boys Secondary School (BSS) and Girls High School (GHS) into centers of excellence.

This initiative was announced during a world press conference on October 3, 2024, held at GOSA’s secretariat in Dogon Karfe, Jos, Plateau State.

During the conference, Hon. Latep Dabang, Chairman of the 2024 Convention Central Planning Committee, outlined the goals and preparations for the convention. Hon. Dabang emphasized that the funds will be utilized for a comprehensive overhaul of the schools, aiming to enhance modern infrastructure, learning aids, and upgraded facilities.

He stated, “We aim to turn these schools into centers of excellence by providing state-of-the-art learning aids, virtual classroom facilities, international-standard sporting facilities, and updated hostel accommodations. Additionally, we plan to invest in the capacity training of staff, ensuring that BSS and GHS become templates of excellence for other schools in the country to follow.”

Moreover, Hon. Dabang indicated that the fundraising effort will be a focal point during the convention’s dinner event scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2024.

He underscored the importance of this dinner, asserting, “This year’s dinner is dedicated to raising the 1 billion naira needed to overhaul the schools. Our desire is to position these institutions as beacons of modern education, and we realize that this transformation will take time, which is why the project is designed to span several years, ensuring lasting impact.”

Additionally, he noted that this year’s convention, themed “Nurturing Excellence, Strengthening Bonds for a Brighter Future,” is set to take place on the first weekend of November, featuring a series of events to celebrate GOSA’s legacy and future aspirations. He outlined the activities, stating,

“The activities will begin on Friday, November 1, 2024, with courtesy visits to Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, a GOSA member, as well as traditional leaders. These visits demonstrate our respect for constituted authority and reflect GOSA’s values of honor and tradition.”

“Saturday’s events will include the main convention, where members will appraise the year’s activities and elect a new national executive, followed by the fundraising dinner. This is not just about raising funds,It is about bringing the GOSA family together to ensure the sustainability of our schools and our association’s contributions to national development.” He said.

He also stated that the weekend will conclude on Sunday, November 3, with a reunion service at All Saints Church in Gindiri, followed by a town hall meeting to map out future plans. The association also paid tribute to its late members, including former President Prof. Ochapa Onazi, who Hon. Dabang described as “leaders whose legacies continue to inspire us.”

Calling on all GOSA members and supporters, Hon. Dabang emphasized that this year’s convention represents a pivotal moment in the organization’s history. He encouraged all members, both local and international, to join in this remarkable journey toward excellence, unity, and progress.
