Gov. Mutfwang Urges Alumni Associations to Support Educational Development.

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Mannaseh Mutfwang, has urged alumni associations to continue their support for the development of their alma mater.

Governor Mutfwang emphasized the importance of this role in the face of current challenges and realities in public educational institutions.

Speaking at the 2024 Special Convention of the Kuru Old Students Association (KOSA) with the theme “Celebrating Milestones, Embracing Memories, and Building the Future,” Governor Mutfwang highlighted the crucial role that alumni associations play in educational development.

The Governor mentioned his administration’s interventions in educational institutions, such as the Dental School at Jos University Teaching Hospital, and partnerships with international donor agencies to improve infrastructure in schools across the state.

During the Convention, The KOSA National President, Dr. Musa Wen Ibrahim, announced the establishment of a trust fund aimed at supporting the school’s development initiatives and providing scholarships to exceptional students.

The fund was inaugurated with a donation five hundred thousand naira (500,000) from Dr. Ibrahim and the formation of a board of trustees to oversee its operations.

Guest speaker Prof. C J Dakas (SAN) stressed the vital role alumni associations play in advancing alma maters and advocated for leveraging modern trends to enhance curriculum standards.He highlighted the importance of alumni contributing to the school’s progress and the community.

He stated. “In today’s knowledge economy, science reigns supreme as the driving force behind global progress. As we embrace the era of the fourth industrial revolution, the critical role of science in shaping our future cannot be overstated. My fervent hope is that students, alongside government agencies, will unite to transform Kuru into an IT hub and innovation center. Let us, as alumni, pledge our unwavering commitment to the development of our alma mater.”

Also speaking, Chairman Nde Gideon Barde called for comprehensive reforms in secondary education in Plateau State to ensure educational quality and relevance. He stressed the importance of collaboration between stakeholders, including alumni associations, to revitalize schools and contribute to national development.

The convention provided alumni with a platform to reflect on past achievements, celebrate shared memories, and plan for the future. With the establishment of the Kuru Science School Education Trust and alumni commitment to educational excellence, transformative initiatives are set to benefit current and future students.

As KOSA members unite to advance the legacy of Government Science School Kuru, a brighter future for the school is promised.
