Jos Police Promote Peace Through Quiz competition

In a demonstration of community outreach, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Okoro J Alawari, applauded the C Division Inter-School Peace Science Competition 2023.

Speaking at the event’s grand finale, Alawari declared that the police truly are “your friend.” The C Division Inter-School Science Peace Quiz Competition took place over a period of three weeks and concluded on November 23, 2023.

A total of 18 secondary schools from Jos North Local Government Area participated in the event held at the Living Faith Auditorium and Faith Academy Hall.

The Commissioner was represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Haruna. Haruna admitted that the successful competition exemplified students’ positive perceptions of the police force
. He also noted students’ enthusiasm in potentially joining the Nigeria Police Force post-graduation.

The Assistant Commissioner stressed that while the primary role of the police is crime prevention and detection, the execution of this competition revealed that they are expanding their social responsibilities.

He thanked the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of C Division in Jos North for playing an instrumental role in promoting peace and fostering virtue amongst students.

Alh. Malsmi Abdullahi Salihu, Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools in Jos North, implored the students to pursue excellence in their academic endeavors and steer clear of criminal activities.

He also showed appreciation for the initiative despite challenging economic circumstances. The peace competition, organized by SP Larrycar Augustus, DPO of C Division, was designed to enhance students’ academic, social, and moral growth.

The DPO also aimed to unify different religious bodies within the community. The competition awarded monetary awards to the top three schools with St Paul’s Academy winning the first place and a cash award of N100,000.

Tamara Academy and Faith Academy took second and third place with corresponding cash rewards of N70,000 and N50,000. In light of the event’s success, Augustus intends to repeat the competition in 2024.
