Hon Markus Usaini, Chairman of Jos East Local Government Area,

Hon Markus Usaini, newly sworn-in Chairman of Jos East Local Government Area, has pledged to focus on boosting the local economy as a key priority of his administration.

Speaking after assuming office, Usaini highlighted the economic potential of the region, particularly in agriculture, and vowed to address challenges that hinder growth.

He emphasized that improving road networks and the health sector would be crucial to enhancing economic activities and the well-being of his constituents.

“Our major challenge is a road network. The people are suffering. We have fertile land and great weather for agriculture, especially for cultivating perishable goods like vegetables, but transporting these to markets in the city remains a serious problem,” Usaini stated.

He reassured residents that his administration had already identified key areas for improvement and would begin work to ensure smoother transportation routes for farmers.

As part of his leadership team, Usaini swore in the elected Deputy Chairman, Hon Atsen Yusuf Musa, alongside councillors representing the 19 wards of the local government.

In addition, Mrs. Joyce Samuel Nyam was appointed as Executive Secretary, with Com Fabian Nyam serving as Personal Assistant and Com James Casper Azi as Director of Media and Publicity.

Usaini’s focus on economic development extends beyond agriculture, with promises to also strengthen the health sector, which he noted as another major concern for the people of Jos East.

He noted that his administration aims to foster an inclusive approach, ensuring that community input plays a role in decision-making processes.

In the Legislative Arm of Jos East, key leadership positions were also filled, with Hon. Luka James Idoh, Councillor for Fobur B West, elected as Leader. Hon. Ajang Arin Agok was named Deputy Leader, while Hon. Luka John Itse and Hon. Itse Izang Ishaku took up the roles of Majority Leader and Minority Leader, respectively.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Idoh expressed gratitude to the PDP and the executive chairman for their guidance.

He pledged to lead with integrity and collaboration, ensuring that the legislative body works towards enacting policies that will drive development across the local government.

The inauguration ceremony was met with excitement, with hundreds of supporters from across the LGA attending to witness the new leadership take charge.
