The victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Langtang North/Langtang South Federal constituency, Beni Lar, has been annulled by the National and State House of Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal in Plateau State.
Lar, a legislator serving her fifth term, was originally elected as representative for the federal constituency on the PDP platform during the February 25 National Assembly poll.
On Tuesday evening, Justice Mohammed Tukur, who presided over the panel, announced their judgement. The nullification of Lar’s win was based on a failure by the PDP to conduct a valid nomination of Lar’s candidacy for the election.
As a result, the Tribunal declared Vincent Bulus, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the legitimate winner of the National Assembly poll.
This ruling brings the total of PDP candidate election victories nullified by the tribunal in the state to four.
In response to the Tribunal’s ruling, the Peoples Democratic Party has voiced their protest against the nullification of wins by its candidates.
During a press conference in Jos on Tuesday, state chairman of the PDP, Chris Hassan, expressed disagreement with the Tribunal’s decisions, asserting they go against the will of the people who cast their votes for the party and its candidates in the 2023 general elections.
