Senator Diket Plang, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Labour, Employment, and Productivity, along with his role as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character, has expressed his commendation towards President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for officially upgrading the Federal College of Education (FCE) Pankshin in Plateau State to the status of a Federal University of Education.
In a statement, Senator Plang also recognized the visionary efforts of Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, the bill’s sponsor and Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Navy, who represents Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam federal constituencies in Plateau State. Senator Plang emphasized that this upgrade reflects the commitment of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration to prioritize education.
He remarked, “The upgrade will improve the quality of teaching by enriching the knowledge of teachers and further spurring them to work harder. Teaching is the pivotal of education; therefore, teacher quality is central to quality education and the national development of any nation.”
He continued, stating, “The upgrade of the college is part of the development plan of President Tinubu to promote qualitative education in Nigeria. And the quality of teachers is what determines the standard of education.”
“This is a welcome development; Nigeria and Plateau State in particular will no doubt benefit immensely from this gesture.”
“This equally demonstrates the unwavering support of this administration for the development of the educational system in Nigeria.
” Therefore, on behalf of the people of the Plateau Central Senatorial District of Plateau State, I therefore thank Mr. President and sponsor of the bill, Hon. Gardi, alongside other members of the National Assembly from the State for their contributions towards the passage of the bill and consequent signing by the president.”
Senator Plang also extended his congratulations to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, traditional rulers, and the citizens of Plateau State on this significant achievement and historical milestone.
