The Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Area, Hon. Pirfa Jingfa Tyem, has rolled out his administration’s one-year scorecard, outlining visible achievements in healthcare delivery, educational development, agricultural productivity, and social welfare.
In a statement marking his one year in office, Hon. Tyem said the Conviction Administration has demonstrated what purposeful leadership means at the grassroots through focus, consistency, and people-centered governance.
He noted that the journey so far has been guided by the principles of equity, accountability, transparency, and inclusiveness.According to him, the administration has within a year recorded remarkable progress in key sectors that directly impact citizens’ welfare.
“Recognising that a healthy population is the foundation of development, we made health one of our foremost priorities. Tangible progress has been recorded across communities, breathing new life into the local healthcare system,” the statement read.
It was disclosed that bold measures were taken to address the shortage of health personnel in rural areas, ensuring residents in remote communities now have better access to quality medical services.
Through proactive responses to disease outbreaks, the council curtailed the spread of cholera while strengthening preventive health awareness across wards.
Health commodities and relief materials were distributed to vulnerable communities, while sanitation campaigns were revived to promote hygiene and community participation.
“Under our watch, Langtang North ranked Number One in the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention exercise in Plateau State, a testament to our efficiency and dedication to saving lives,” Tyem added.
Education, he stated, remains another major priority of the administration. He revealed that several interventions have been implemented to create a conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers across the area.
“We renovated the Education Secretariat, constructed new classrooms in communities like Somung, and supplied furniture and learning materials in collaboration with the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board,” he said.
The statement further highlighted that teachers have continued to receive their salaries promptly, alongside incentives and training programmes aimed at improving teaching standards.
The council also procured 1,000 JAMB e-pins for students across Langtang North to ease the financial burden on parents and encourage higher education enrollment.
Similarly, scholarships for postgraduate students were awarded to indigent citizens to ensure inclusiveness in educational opportunities.
“We are deliberately investing in the minds of our young people because the future of Langtang North depends on an educated generation,” Tyem emphasized.
In the agricultural sector, the council procured and distributed fertilizers to farmers at subsidised rates to boost food production and income stability. Tyem noted that these efforts have improved food security and revitalised the rural economy.
On social welfare, the administration was said to have empowered small-scale entrepreneurs, youths, widows, and other vulnerable groups through various interventions.
“We reviewed upward the salaries of our dedicated street cleaners and provided palliatives to widows and orphans as part of our social responsibility,” the statement noted.
It was further disclosed that cultural festivals and traditional events promoting peace and unity have been sustained, while Nggapak Unity FM 93.1 was revived, licensed, and commercialised to strengthen community communication and participation.
Hon. Tyem reaffirmed that peace and security remain the bedrock of the administration’s progress, noting that regular security meetings and community engagements have fostered renewed calm in the area.
Partnerships with security agencies and traditional institutions have also been strengthened to enhance intelligence sharing and coordinated responses to threats. He maintained that the council has blocked leakages in internally generated revenue, ensuring better financial discipline and accountability in service delivery.
While describing the achievements as remarkable, Hon. Tyem said the next phase would focus on sustainability, youth employment, and improved social services.
“Our dream is to make Langtang North a model of peace, growth, and good governance — not just in Plateau State, but across Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
