UNIJOS Acquires ₦50 Million Equipment to Boost Entrepreneurship

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has received high-tech equipment worth ₦50 million to enhance vocational skills development and promote entrepreneurship through its Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies.

The equipment, funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), will support training in fields such as photography, cinematography, tailoring, digital studio production, printing, graphics design, and robotics.

Speaking during the unveiling, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Tanko Ishaya, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Rahila Gowon, expressed gratitude to TETFund for the intervention.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining the equipment to ensure its longevity and effectiveness.

We are fully committed to ensuring that the Center has the tools, resources, and environment it needs to achieve excellence. The success of the Center is the success of the University, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that it thrives,” Ishaya said.

He highlighted the University’s broader efforts to strengthen entrepreneurship programs and empower students and the community with skills to contribute to Plateau State’s and Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies, Professor Emmanuel Oki, explained that the equipment acquisition followed the successful approval of a proposal submitted to TETFund.

He noted that the resources would elevate the Centre’s capacity to meet the needs of both the university and the public.

These new tools will transform the Centre into a revenue-generating hub while equipping students and community members with practical skills to address societal challenges,” Oki said.

The procured items include Starlink Internet Service, video transmission systems, industrial tailoring machines, and advanced video production tools, among others.

The equipment will be deployed in collaboration with various professional departments within the University.

The initiative underscores UNIJOS’s commitment to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development, positioning its students and the community as active contributors to Nigeria’s economy.
