Tragedy struck the All Progressive Congress (APC) family in Plateau State as the State Publicity Secretary of the Party, Hon. Slyvanus Namang, was brutally murdered by gunmen along with one person on Saturday.
According to a source within the party in Jos, the victims were at a relaxation spot in Pankshin local government area when a group of about ten gunmen arrived and began shooting indiscriminately, causing panic among those present.
Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen specifically targeted Namang, shooting him at close range before abducting the man sitting beside him. Namang died instantly, while the body of the other victim was found later on the roadside and taken to a mortuary in the local government area.
The State Chairman of the party, Hon. Rufus Bature, confirmed the tragic incident, labeling it as a gruesome murder.
Also, the organising secretary, Mr Philip Adiks, expressed shock over the loss of a dedicated party member and mentioned that details surrounding the death are still unclear.
“Right now we don’t have the details, but the state secretary of the party has gone to Pankshin for the details. I want to believe that by the time he returns, the party will have the details. We have lost a dedicated party man,” he said.
All attempts to speak with the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, proved abortive, as he could not be reached on his phone.
The party remains in mourning as investigations into the killing continue.
