Deadly Bandit Raid Leaves 40 Dead in Zurak Village

According to reports, a group of ferocious bandits launched a deadly attack on Zurak village in the Bashar district of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The aftermath of the raid left at least 40 persons dead, with houses and shops being burned to the ground. Mallam Sahpi’i Sambo, a youth leader in the village, recounted the harrowing events of the attack that took place around 7:30 pm on Monday night.

He described how the assailants arrived on motorbikes armed with sophisticated weapons, indiscriminately shooting at anyone in sight.

“More than 40 persons were killed, while several others were injured. Houses and shops were set ablaze. We could not immediately reach out to security forces because of the terrain. It was a deadly attack,” said Sambo.

Residents fled to neighboring communities for safety as security personnel had not yet arrived at the scene.

This is not the first time Zurak has faced such violence, as a previous attack on its Campani market earlier this year resulted in the death of seven people.

When contacted for a statement, the spokesperson for the state police command, Mr. Alabo Alfred, and his military counterpart, Samson Zhakom, were unavailable for comment. They both requested time to gather details on the crisis before providing further information.
